Revelation 21:6a

Revelation 21:6 has been my favourite verse ever since I became a Christian because it gave me rest after wandering in the desert, looking for God.

I grew up in a Christian house and left the faith after being turned away by all of the Christian authorities in my life. I knew that there had to be a God because the alternative was that life was meaningless. But I couldn’t find him on my own, and life was empty.

He found me and turned my life around when I had proven that I was lost and could not find him. He finished the work that I understood that no human could ever finish.

In this verse, Jesus may be speaking of a future that has not yet happened, but it is true now that Jesus has finished the work that saves us and that he gives us the water of life through the Spirit. We can live and rest in his work, and no longer wander through the desert looking for meaning.
